Our office currently runs standard fluorescent strip lights (1500mm T8 tubes) throughout, with over 60 bulbs across 3 floors. We are considering upgrading all the lights to LED bulbs, in order to save power and to make them compatible with an office automation system (to turn them on and off automatically).
Energy savings
So, how much energy will they save? Well a standard fluorescent bulb consumes about 58w, whereas the new LED bulbs consume around 20W. Therefore over the course of a year I would anticipate the energy savings to be as follows:

We are currently asking suppliers to quote us for 60 bulbs, and the prices we have received so far range between £25 to £60 per bulb.
The bulbs are rated for about 50,000 hours of constant usage, which should mean they would last nearly 20 years at the rate of usage we have forecast.
Standard bulbs last about 5,000 hours (2 years) and cost around £2 each.
It looks like the energy saving bulbs should pay for themselves after 3 – 5 years, and return a yield of around 20% thereafter.
Things I haven’t factored in:
- Cost of installation / replacing bulbs (slighty more difficult to initially install, but they last 10 times as long and therefore need less labour to replace).
- Reduced heat from operation – might require less air conditioning in summer months)

In order to have a high brightness,we use 3-chip SMD LEDs ,such as we use 116pcs LEDs for 1200mm tube and the brightness can be 1600lumens .
We use PWM driver with constant current to have a less brightness decay .
Especially that we have designed zeners on the back of PCB board .If one LED happen to die ,the other LEDs will go on to work .
As far as I know it is quite normal that all the LEDs will be in the chain to black out if one LED is failure for some other suppliers’ design .

We are using eight of these bulbs on an overhead track in our parents’ kitchen, with each bulb aimed at its own portion of the countertop. Combined, the eight bulbs do provide enough light for the kitchen, though ideally it would be nice to have a little more light, and for the light to be a tad warmer. LED technology has come a long way, but most reasonably-priced LED light bulbs are still not as bright as we would prefer.
Still, for $13 per bulb, and a power consumption of about 2 watts, these bulbs are a good value relative to other LED bulbs on the market. Keep in mind that a GU-10 compact fluorescent bulb is likely to be around $9, of course for more brightness and more power consumption. Especially in a high use area like the kitchen, these LED bulbs will pay for themselves due to their much lower power consumption, and we do find the quality of the light to be quite acceptable, even if not perfectly ideal.

Been there done it and still love LED lighting.
However led is directional and does not give as much light output as your t8 fluorescent tube.
A better alternative is to use the t5 tube which comes with high frequency ballast.
You will also have problems with fitting the led tubes as you are not insured if tampering with t8 existing fittings for your led.

We are a manufacturer of industrial lighting fixtures that can be used with both linear fluorescent lamps and LED tube lamps. I believe your comparison of the fluorescent vs. LED tube is flawed because it does not take into consideration several factors including lumens produced by each type of lamp, heat produced by each type of lamp and the LED tube manufacturers boast of a 50,000 hour life but will only warrant the lamp for two years. The fluorescent lamp manufacturers will warrant up to 36,000 hours or three years. If you look very close at all factors the LED tube lamps are a poor choice because the LED technology is not quite good enough yet.
